AWP skins by budget: what to buy at each price

A ladder for the AWP from entry to top: honest picks per rung, how each one wears, and the float ranges that catch buyers out on this gun more than on any other.

The AWP is the second skin most people buy and the first one they regret. It is a big gun with a lot of surface, it spends the round on screen, and several of its best-known finishes have float ranges that do not behave like the rest of the game. Here is the ladder, rung by rung, with the traps marked.

Same rule as always: entry, mid, high and top are steps relative to each other, not fixed prices. Read them as a ladder.

Entry: a lot of gun for little

The AWP has more cheap skins that look good than any other weapon, mostly because the body is large enough for simple finishes to read from across the map.

  • AWP | Atheris. Teal snake scales on a dark body. Cheap, common, and the dark base hides wear.
  • AWP | Capillary. Dark grey with red vein lines. Plain enough that a Field-Tested copy looks close to a clean one.
  • AWP | Worm God. Sand and green with a worm illustration along the body. A little rougher, but a lot of art for the money.
  • AWP | Fever Dream. Dark blue with a cartoon skull and neon lines. Dark base, forgiving wear, and it looks like a more expensive skin than it is.

What to check: the exterior only. On this rung a lower float rarely costs much more, so take it when it is there and do not chase it when it is not.

Mid: the ones with a float catch

This rung is where most AWP buyers land and where most of them get caught out. Some of the classics do not use the full float range.

  • AWP | Asiimov. White, orange and black. The minimum float is 0.18, so there is no Factory New and no Minimal Wear Asiimov, and there never will be. Field-Tested is the best it gets. A Field-Tested copy near 0.18 is the cleanest Asiimov in existence and prices like it. A Field-Tested copy near the top of the band is a different item with the same label. This is the single most common mistake on the whole AWP market, so read the float before you compare prices.
  • AWP | Redline. Black with red carbon stripes, the AWP cousin of the AK-47 skin. Wear shows as grey scuffing on the black. Fine at Field-Tested, and a low Minimal Wear copy is the one to hold.
  • AWP | Hyper Beast. Teal, pink and purple monster art across the whole body. Busy enough to hide scratches, so Field-Tested looks close to Minimal Wear in a match.
  • AWP | Neo-Noir. Black and white with pink and blue accents. Cleaner than Hyper Beast and less forgiving, because the white areas pick up wear first.
  • AWP | Wildfire. A flaming figure in orange over a dark purple body. Popular, and the dark base does most of the work at mid floats.

What to check: the float range of the skin before the float of the copy. Know whether Field-Tested is the top of that skin or an ordinary tier. On Asiimov it is the top.

High: art you pay for

  • AWP | Containment Breach. Green and black with a hazard motif. Dark, wears well, and one of the most popular AWPs of the last few years.
  • AWP | Chromatic Aberration. A face split into red, green and blue channels on a dark body. Detailed art, so aim for Minimal Wear or better.
  • AWP | Oni Taiji. A samurai and a demon in ink on a pale body. Pale base, so wear shows early. Float matters here as much as it does on a Vulcan.
  • AWP | The Prince. Gold filigree and floral work on a white body. A collection skin, so no StatTrak version exists and no case is refilling the supply.

What to check: the playside render. In first person the AWP shows the receiver, the scope and the top of the body. Art that sits on the far side of the gun is something the enemy sees on your model, not something you see.

Top: the collection skins

  • AWP | Dragon Lore. The one everyone knows. Cobblestone Collection, no StatTrak, and Souvenir and normal are separate markets. It exists in all five wear ratings.
  • AWP | Gungnir. Blue and gold Norse spear art from the Norse Collection. Also no StatTrak, also scarce, and it wears cleanly because the blue is dark.
  • AWP | Medusa. A pale body with the Medusa head on the stock, from the Gods and Monsters Collection. Pale base, so the gap between clean and worn is wide.
  • AWP | Lightning Strike. Black with purple lightning. It only exists in Factory New and Minimal Wear because its float range is capped low, so every copy is clean and the price gap is about the digits, not the look.

What to check: everything, and then the Souvenir stickers if it is a Souvenir. On this rung the copy is the product.

The float traps in one table

Skin The catch What it means
Asiimov Minimum float 0.18 Field-Tested is the best available. No FN or MW exists.
Lightning Strike Low maximum float Only FN and MW exist. Every copy is clean.
Oni Taiji, Medusa, The Prince Pale body Wear shows early. The float decides the look.
Hyper Beast, Containment Breach, Atheris Dark, busy finish Wear hides. Field-Tested is good value.

Before you compare two AWPs, check the float range of the skin. A Field-Tested Asiimov and a Field-Tested Medusa are not the same kind of Field-Tested.

Two habits that save money on this gun

  1. Open the inspect and look at the scope and the body from the shooter’s side. That is what is on screen. A scratched stock costs you nothing.
  2. Decide on StatTrak before you look. Case skins have a StatTrak line, collection skins do not, and the counter adds to the price on every rung where it exists.

On PrefireSkins every lot shows its exterior and, where known, its float from inspect data, and prices are in EUR. Use the float to place the copy inside its band, use the render to see what that number looks like on this finish, and then decide if the price fits.
