Steam trade holds and trade offers: how delivery works

How a skin gets from us to your Steam inventory: trade URLs, Steam Guard, the 7-day hold, what pending means and what to do when an offer fails.

When you buy a skin on PrefireSkins, nothing gets emailed or downloaded. The item moves the same way every CS2 skin moves between accounts: through a Steam trade offer. Here is how that works and where it can get stuck.

What happens after payment

  1. You pay by bank card or crypto and give us your Steam trade URL at checkout.
  2. We send a trade offer to that URL. Usually this happens within minutes.
  3. You open the offer in Steam, check it, and accept it. The item lands in your inventory.

Until you accept the offer, the sale is not complete and you can get a full refund. Once you accept it, the sale is final. That is why it is worth reading the offer before you click.

Finding your trade URL

Your trade URL is a link that lets someone send you an offer without being on your friends list. It contains your account ID and a token, and it starts with steamcommunity.com/tradeoffer/new/ followed by partner and token parameters.

To find it, open Steam, go to your Inventory, click Trade Offers, then click “Who can send me Trade Offers?”. Scroll to the Third-Party Sites section. Your trade URL is there, with a button to create a new one.

Two things to know. If you generate a new URL, the old one stops working, so any offer sent to the old link fails. And your inventory can stay private; a trade URL still works.

Steam Guard and the mobile authenticator

An account with no Steam Guard at all, or with Steam Guard turned on less than 15 days ago, cannot trade. Beyond that, Steam only lets trades complete right away once the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator has been on the account for at least seven days. Without the authenticator, or with one added less than a week ago, Steam puts every incoming trade into a hold that can last up to 15 days.

So before you order, make sure the mobile authenticator is set up on the account you are buying for, and has been for more than a week. It saves you a long wait.

One rule that never changes: we never ask for your Steam password or a Steam Guard code. The only thing we need from you is the trade URL. Anyone asking for more is not us.

The 7-day trade hold

There are two kinds of hold, and people mix them up.

Hold What triggers it How long
Item trade cooldown An item received through a trade, or bought on the Steam Community Market 7 days from when it arrived
Trade hold (escrow) The receiving account has no mobile authenticator, or added it less than 7 days ago Up to 15 days

The first one is on the item. A CS2 skin that just changed hands cannot be traded again for seven days. It sits in the inventory, it can be used in matches, but it cannot move.

The second one is on the account. Steam accepts the trade but does not complete it until the hold runs out. Either side can cancel during that time.

For your order this means one thing. If the item you bought is still under its own seven-day cooldown, we cannot send it yet. The offer goes out as soon as the cooldown ends, and you get it then.

What pending means

In Steam, a trade offer you have received but not yet accepted shows as pending. Nothing is wrong. It is waiting for you.

If you accepted and the offer still shows as pending or in escrow, the account-side hold is running. Check the Steam Guard status on the account.

If you have not received any offer yet, the most likely reason is the item cooldown described above. The item is on its way, just not today.

Reading the offer before accepting

  • Your side of the offer should be empty. You are receiving an item, not giving one.
  • The item in the offer should match what you bought: skin, wear, and, where it applies, StatTrak or Souvenir.
  • Open the item in the offer and look at it. The inspect view is there for exactly this.

If anything looks off, do not accept. Write to support@prefireskins.com and we will sort it out.

Why an offer fails

Most failed deliveries come down to a short list.

  • Old or wrong trade URL. You regenerated it, pasted the wrong one, or copied it from a different account.
  • No mobile authenticator. Steam holds the trade or refuses it outright.
  • A fresh account change. Steam blocks trading for a while after a password reset or after the authenticator has been removed and added again.
  • Trade ban or restriction. A VAC ban in CS2 blocks trading CS2 items. A community ban can also block trades.
  • Full inventory. CS2 inventories cap at 1,000 items. If you are at the limit, nothing can come in.
  • Offer declined by accident. It happens. A declined offer is just cancelled, not lost.

What to do

  1. Check your trade URL on the Steam page above and compare it with the one you entered at checkout.
  2. Check that the mobile authenticator is active and has been for over a week.
  3. Open your trade offers page in Steam. If your account is restricted, Steam says so at the top and tells you for how long.
  4. Email support@prefireskins.com with your order number and, if the URL changed, the new one. We resend the offer.

While the item has not been delivered, a full refund is always on the table. Once it is in your inventory, it is yours and the sale is closed.
